Do you have a tendency to just leave your kiln dried logs in the bag they arrive in or just throw them into a pile? We understand that it requires a bit of time to be set aside to stack your logs neatly but it is actually a very important process and that is why we offer a log stacking service for £10 per bag.
To get the perfect roaring flame there are a few things you need to consider when storing your logs and ensuring that they are in the correct place. If your firewood becomes wet and muddy, it’s going to prevent it from burning when you need it. plus, what’s worse an infestation of critters and when you bring the logs into your house, who knows where they will end up.
For your logs to burn correctly and effectively, their moisture levels should be below 20% at all times. Keeping your logs clean and dry is crucial and what’s why we would always recommend you stack them where it is clean and dry and you bring them into the house as and when you need them.
How do you store your kiln dried logs?
So, the best way to store your firewood in order for them to last longer is in a wood store. We understand that not everybody has the space for a wood store so if you have a dry area of your garage or shed then this would work too. Ideally, we would recommend that the logs are stored off the ground as it would help to keep them ventilated. Also, a good amount of sunlight will help to preserve them and make them last longer. Try not to place your kiln dried logs too far away from your house. After all we are in the UK and during the winter the weather conditions are unpredictable so if you have to walk down to the end of your garden in the rain or wind to bring your logs in, it is going to be harder work for you.
If you do end up storing your kiln dried logs inside and not in a wood store you still need to follow the same guidance of them being raise up from the ground and also having access to sunlight during the day.
