Benefits Of Hardwood Logs
With energy bills on the rise, hardwood provides the benefit of burning for longer than softwood, and the embers that remain continue to give off heat for a greater period of time. Hardwood logs come from sturdy, slow growing trees, the likes of oak, birch and ash that shed their leaves during the cold winter months, providing a strong and thick firewood.
Hardwood, without a doubt, is the best kind of firewood to use for interior fires, wood stoves and fireplaces. When you compare it to softwood, it contains a lot less moisture, and due to the density of the wood, it burns very slowly and thoroughly. In turn making it a much more cost effective method of heating your home, especially in current times.
Hardwood logs also produce less smoke and sparks during a fire when compared to softwood, this is key for your safety and well being.
How To Store Kilnwood Logs
Kiln dried logs can be stored both inside and outside. It is important that you consider the place you want to store your firewood. If they are going to be stored outside, you will want to place the firewood in an area that has as much protection as possible, keeping your firewood out of the rain and snow, reducing the amount of moisture it will absorb. Firewood should always be on a flat and even surface. Too much rain on the firewood will increase the amount of water content.
It is important to stack firewood neatly, close to, but making sure not to be touching a wall or a fence, this is crucial as tight stacking ensure that only the top layer of the logs will get wet, should the logs see any rain.
Make you sure never just place the logs on grass as they will get wet and absorb a lot of water from the ground. If you want to place your logs on the ground, ensure you have a barrier in place on the ground, such as a pallet or some wooden beams, this will ensure that there is air flow under the logs, whilst making sure that the logs are not directly touching the grass or the ground.
If you will be stacking your logs against a wall, make sure they are not too tight against the wall, as if they are too close to the wall, the rear of the logs will not see any air flow. This is where a log store can come in handy because the rear panels allow for. Air flow between the logs and the wall that the log store is against.
